In just four months, Chipotle (CMG) has tumbled nearly 44% — a massive correction for a stock known for its strength.
But did the business behind the stock collapse? Not really. I still grab my Chipotle bowl every now and then — and the stores are just as busy.
👉 Tip: Always review the company’s financials for fundamentals analysis.
Now, here’s where things get interesting…
Technically, CMG is setting up for what could be a major bounce — and I’m personally long on this trade. Let’s look at why I think this offers a great risk-to-reward opportunity.

Stacking the Odds — The Pillar of Technical Analysis
In Technical Analysis, layering multiple signals together boosts your odds of success.
With one indicator, the odds of success might be 60%, two indicators — 70%, add a third one — it jumps to 80%.
Since it is based on probability, nothing is ever guaranteed. That’s why having a clear game plan before every trade is crucial — and sticking to it consistently.
Before we jump into a real-world example, I recommend a quick refresher on these core technical analysis concepts. Understanding them will help you follow along and get the most out of the breakdown:
Now, let’s apply these concepts in a practical, step-by-step example.
Why CMG Looks Attractive (Technically)
Factor 1: Long Term Support
I added this stock to my watch. If the price were to fall to the long term support, i.e. around 40$, I would enter long.

Factor 2: Alignment with the downsloping parallel channel
Simultaneously, I observed the price action within a downsloping channel, with the lower boundary of that channel neatly coinciding with the support trend line, which was a significant positive confirmation.

Factor 3: Price below 200 week Moving Average
Consider the 200-week moving average to be a dynamic support level that consistently sparks a resumption of buying.
The price has now dipped below 200MA, and is holding the support.

Factor 4: Beaten Down RSI (~40)
The Relative Strength Index (RSI) on the weekly chart has fallen significantly, reaching the $40 level last seen in 2022. Furthermore, while not a strong signal, a divergence is present, as the RSI failed to record a new lower low alongside the price action.

With my average cost basis sitting around $39.87, I see two distinct ways to approach this position:
- Long-Term Conviction: For those who are bullish on the company’s fundamentals, this current price level presents a solid opportunity for a long-term hold.
- Short-Term Play: One could aim for a quick scalp, utilizing a tight stop-loss triggered by any confirming close below the key support trend line.
A critical reminder: The company’s earnings report is fast approaching, which could introduce significant volatility. My personal approach is driven by my fundamental belief in the company: I plan to accumulate more shares, but I will do so strategically by scaling in at the next defined support zone, rather than buying randomly on a dip.
🧠 Final Thoughts
The technicals are aligning beautifully — oversold conditions, long-term supports, and momentum divergences all point toward a potential rebound.
While no setup is ever guaranteed, this is one of those rare moments where risk is clearly defined and upside potential is significant.
For patient traders, CMG could turn out to be one of the most rewarding swing setups in months.
As always — plan your trade, size it right, and let the chart do the talking.
