How I Made $1,183 in 4 Days: A High-Conviction 2.69R Swing Trade in PayPal

In just 20 days, PayPal plunged from $79 to $57 — a massive 26% drop. Did anything fundamentally change in the business? Absolutely not.
That’s the beauty (and chaos) of market psychology: fear takes over long before fundamentals do.
During periods like this, I lean heavily on technical analysis to time high-probability swing entries.
This wasn’t a random trade — it was a structured 2/3-factor setup, backed by a predefined R-based position sizing framework, a clear stop loss, and conviction in the chart.

In this post, I’ll break down exactly:
- Why I took this trade
- How I sized the position
- How I set the stop loss
- And the technical setup that gave me the confidence to enter while fear dominated the market
Let’s dive in.
Before we dive deeper into the setup, please read through the following blogs for context of the technical tools used.

The Three-Factor Setup
PayPal flashed a clean confluence of signals

- It tapped a long-term trendline dating back to Nov 2024
- RSI dropped below 30, entering oversold territory
- A noticeable volume spike signaled potential exhaustion
- And most importantly — nothing changed fundamentally with the business
This combination made it a high-probability swing setup.
Defining the Stop-Loss Zone
I placed the stop loss below the next key support level. A confirmed close below that level would invalidate the setup.
Following my trading rule of targeting at least 2R, I placed my take-profit level around the gap-fill zone.

Here’s how the numbers looked:
- Entry: $57.89
- Stop: $54.59
- Risk Appetite: $1,000 per trade
Position Size = 1000 / (57.89–54.59) ≈ 303 shares
I never risk more than $1,000 per trade — this keeps my downside fixed while allowing upside to compound.
The complete setup — A 2.69R trade

Did I Book Profits?
Not yet.
The trade is currently sitting at 2.69R, with my initial target around $65.
I may:
- Take profits at the target, or
- Shift to a trailing stop depending on upcoming price action
For now, I’m letting the trade run.
Final Thoughts
This trade is a perfect example of why consistent process beats prediction.
A clean setup + risk-defined position sizing + patience = asymmetric returns.
Markets may be emotional, but your approach shouldn’t be. When fear drives price far from fundamentals, disciplined traders get opportunities — and this PayPal setup was one of them.
